Introduction:
Government of Gujarat has started IAS Coaching Center since September, 1992 at the Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA), for training the youth of Gujarat who aspire to join civil services. The details of the training programme are as under:
I. TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR PREPARATION OF CIVIL SERVICES EXAMINATION.
An intensive training program to train graduates/post graduates from the Universities in Gujarat State for the competitive examinations of Civil Services, to be conducted by Union Public Commission, New Delhi Government of Gujarat has started as IAS Coaching Centre since September,1992 at the Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA) . The details of the training programme are as under :

About Entrance Examination
Applications are invited from the eligible Students in the month of June-July every year through advertisement in English and Gujarati Newspapers. An objective type of written test is held at Ahmedabad in July/August for the eligible students The question paper contains 150 General Studies questions of 150 Marks and two and half hours’ duration with multiple choice questions. It is of the standard of UPSC preliminary General Studies paper. On the basis of the performance in written test, 150 students are called for Essay Test & Interview in the month of August. The term begins from 1st week of September.

Environment
There is a group of around hundred students thriving for a single goal. Interaction amongst them fulfils their material plus psychological needs. SPIPA provides a platform for this team work. A campus of 8 acre area of land with plantations and rich grass plots creates a natural environment for study.

Coaching
An integrated coaching which concentrates on all the three stages of UPSC examination i.e. Prelims, Mains and Interviews. The rich experienced lecturers affiliated with SPIPA helpful to students not only for General studies but also for optional subjects. Coaching is provided free of cost to all sixty students.

Library
A rich Library of 65,000 books equipped with the latest material for Civil Services Exams. Library is accompanied by a spacious, well ventilated reading room with personal cabins for students. A wide range of Magazines and News Papers are also available.

Hostel
SPIPA provides free Lodging and Boarding to the outstation students of Reserved Category, plus a stipend of Rs. 250/- p.m. for them. Lodging and Boarding is provided for General Category students at the concessional rates.

Activities
Regular Coaching through expert faculties for the General Studies and Optional Subjects. Series of group discussions and presentations by the students on current events are regularly organized frequently test on General Studies Papers Optional Papers and Essay Writing to check the performance of the students are arranged regularly.
Orientation Course
Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration, Ahmedabad is conducting 10 days Orientation Course for 200 students free of costs for Graduates and Students who have appeared in the final year exam of Graduation on first cum first basis, to increase awareness about Civil Services Examination (IAS/IPS etc.) conducted by Union Public Service Commission. For Orientation Course Applications are invited through advertisement in English & Gujarati Newspapers in the month of JUNE every year.
